FRIED PLANTAIN 🙌🏾🙌🏾 || that is it, tha

FRIED PLANTAIN 🙌🏾🙌🏾 || that is it, that is all! Another single-ingredient banger of a side dish — made with ripe plantains (the riper, the sweeter, the better), sliced then shallow fried in oil and a sprinkle of sea salt!

What is it? Plantains are not bananas but are in the same family. Plantains are a super starchy fruit and a popular side dish made across the Caribbean from Jamaica and Puerto Rico to Cuba and Trinidad & in many African countries such a Nigeria and Ghana!

Here’s all you Need:
🍌 Ripe Plantains
🛢️ Neutral (Vegetable) Oil
🧂 Salt, as desired

🌱 let’s make green seasoning & follow @theseasoned.skillet for more easy, effortless ways to elevate your dishes!

I keep a jar of this on hand in the fridge, or freeze small pucks in ice-cube trays for future use. It’s as simple as tossing everything in a food processor or blender and pulsing until combine. I love using this when seasoning chicken, seafood and meats…as well as when making stews and sauces & now that summer is upon us its the perfect way to use up the herbs from the garden!

Here’s what I put in mine…
🌱Fresh Thyme, hard stems removed
🌱Fresh Parsley, or your preferred herb of choice
🌱Fresh Basil, or…whatever you prefer
🌱Escallions, green/spring onions, roughly chopped
🌱Garlic, becuase… duh!
🌱White Onion, but you can also use sweet/yellow onion
🌱Green Sweet Bell Pepper, this is optional
🌱Scotch Bonnet Pepper, for a flavourful spicy kick
🌱Fresh Ginger, a touch of ginger is always nice in here
🌱Pimento Seeds, also known as allspice berries
🌱Olive Oil, to help bring it all together

PEANUT 🥜 PORRIDGE | if you’re interested in an alternative to everyday oatmeal — try this easy, hearty porridge!

Its made with raw peanuts, quick oats, warm spices, and sweetened condensed milk for a delicious, comforting breakfast.

Here’s what you need:
Raw Peanuts – use unsalted, redskin peanuts.
Quick Oats – this adds nutrients and helps to thickens the porridge.
Milk – use any milk or mylk you prefer!
Water – the base of the porridge.
Pure Vanilla Extract – this adds flavour to the porridge, an essential.
Spices – ground or freshly grated nutmeg, ground cinnamon or cinnamon stick and salt.
Sweetened Condensed Milk – or sugar, sweeten to taste!

GIZZADA 🥥🌴| here’s to another classic and popular Jamaican coconut sweet treat! This open-faced flaky, buttery, tart has a sweet, slightly spiced coconut filling and is quite the delicious snack.

It is sometimes referred to as pinch-me-round due to its pinched crust and although popular in Jamaica it has origins in Portugal, the queijada to be exact (more on this in the blog post).

Here’s what you need:
Flour
Salt
Butter
Cold Water
Coconut
Brown Sugar
Nutmeg
Vanilla Extract - the measurement and inst
